Wonder by R. J. Palacio

We are all different. You are supposed to "tolerate" those differences. Tolerate? Can you do that? Can you tolerate someone who is just a bit too different? Do you make fun of them? Talk about them behind their backs? Avoid them? Are you afraid to be seen with them? Would you sit with them during lunch? Would you allow someone to bully them?

What about celebrate? Can you celebrate the differences people have? Should differences be celebrated? All differences? What if someone was born with extreme differences? What if they were born with a face that is not normal at all? Would you stare?

What if you were that person. You have been home schooled all your life. Now, when you are old enough to begin middle school, your parents decide to send you to school?
sirens storm.jpg

Siren's Storm by Lisa Papademetriou

Set in a contemporary seaside resort town with a class distinction between the local residents and the summer vacationers, strange and strained relationships are the norm. Will nearly runs over a girl during a storm which causes him to try to find and save her. Will's family and the small town are dealing with the mysterious disappearance of Will's older brother. A high school student has seemingly gone crazy. All of this may be explained by mythological occurrences. Rick Riordan's fiction mythology series offer a tighter plot, humor, and action.

Some of the descriptions in Siren's Storm are overdone, interfere with the flow of the plot, and make it read like a poorly written romance novel.
